Porthcawl - Town Beach

Due to its primary purpose of being a flood defence for local homes and businesses, Town Beach is prohibited to swimmers and is only safe to explore during certain stages of tide. However, there are areas where rock-pooling is possible and there is a short, accessible walk situated behind the main sea wall.
The main draw to Town Beach must be the abundance of independent cafés, bars and shops that line Porthcawl’s Esplanade. There are several eateries along the prom where you can take in spectacular views across the Bristol Channel to the North Devon coast and listen to the waves crashing below. A short walk to the east and you will find the recently refurbished Jennings building with a range of restaurants as well as the RNLI lifeboat station and look-out point. To the east end of Town Beach is Porthcawl Marina, offering berths for up to 70 leisure and commercial craft, if you choose to visit the town by boat. Toilets are available on nearby John Street – Porthcawl’s main shopping street – and also in the Pier Hotel on the Esplanade.
