When it comes to great golfing, there are few places in the UK that compare to Bridgend County’s beautiful courses. The destination is home to Royal Porthcawl and Pyle & Kenfig golf clubs, considered two of the best courses in the UK, but you may not know that these are also two of the most sustainable clubs in Britain, meaning you’ll be doing your bit for the environment by going green on the greens.
There are only 25 courses in the UK with GEO-Certification and we’re proud to be home to two of them!
Last year, Royal Porthcawl paved the way in sustainable golfing by being the first club in Wales to receive the GEO-Certification sustainability award after their ‘Dunes 2 Dunes’ project. It's common knowledge that golf hasn’t had the best track record when it comes to protecting the natural environment. Greens often require large quantities of water and pesticides to maintain their appearance, which in turn is harmful to local wildlife and habitats.
To counteract these harmful effects, the GEO-certification status has encouraged golf clubs like Royal Porthcawl and P&K to give back to the rich natural environments through adopting positive practices that protect nature, conserve resources and strengthen local communities. Which means golfers can tee-up to their heart’s content, knowing the beautiful stretching landscapes of Bridgend aren’t being harmed in the process.
One of the many changes that was made included clearing overgrown areas of the dunes to promote diversity of flora and fauna. In spring, golfers can now spot flourishing wildflowers which attract insects, bees and a birdlife.

Of course, you’ll want to continue your golfing experiences at some of Bridgend’s other brilliant courses. Royal Porthcawl and Pyle & Kenfig are joined by Coed Y Mwstwr, The Grove and Maesteg to make the county a unique hotspot for the sport with a great combination of links and parkland courses.
