There’s no doubt this is going to be a unique Christmas for everyone. That said, Bridgend County is still getting into the festive spirit and there are a variety of seasonal experiences planned, from festive wreath making to tdrive in panto. Here’s a round up of some of the top festive activities planned in Bridgend County (*subject to COVID restrictions).
We're reindeer mad in Bridgend County
Willow reindeer will be creating festive cheer around the borough following a day of creative Christmas fun with Out to learn Willow at the STEER enterprise academy here in Bridgend. Attendees made their own wintery wreath using locally sourced willow, or crafted their very own reindeer companion. Check out future events and activities at STEER.
Every year, Santa’s friendly reindeer helpers come to Bryngarw Country Park
Visitors can pre-book to follow the weaving trail to find Santa’s friendly helpers hidden amongst the trees of Bryngarw Country Park this Christmas. Curious little explorers can follow the charming trail until they find all of the wooden reindeer, strolling through the winter woodlands, spotting wildlife and jumping in muddy puddles as they go. This popular event is a sell out, so each day throughout December (up to 23rd as the reindeer are busy on 24th) Bryngarw will be hiding a reindeer in a different location in the Park. Will you find Dancer in the Oriental Garden, Vixen in the Orchard or Rudolph in the Meadow maybe?
Have yourself a merry virtual Christmas
This year, support the local community and spread festive cheer whilst staying safe with Bridgend County’s very own virtual Christmas market. Kicking off from December 1st, discover a new and exclusive offer via a brand new app each day of advent. From hand-made jewellery to delicious baked treats, uncover some of the best local businesses across Bridgend, Maesteg and Porthcawl. If you’re feeling lucky, why not enter the online competition to get a personalised video message from Santa, direct from snowy Lapland, delivered directly to your inbox on Christmas eve!
Pick your own Christmas tree (and gifts!)
Fill your home with the festive aromas of a freshly cut Christmas tree from Bridgend’s Pencoed Growers. Head out into the rows of charming locally grown trees to pick out the perfect Christmas centrepiece for your home. Once you’ve made your decision from the array of shapes and sizes available, have it cut fresh for collection and take it home to adorn with shimmering lights and colourful baubles. Or pick up some unique hand made decorations at nearby Ewenny Pottery, the oldest pottery in all of Wales. While you’re there, commission your very own bespoke gift for your nearest and dearest this Christmas, ranging from vases and jugs to plates to candle sticks and crockery. These truly one-of-a-kind ornaments will be treasured for a lifetime, and in doing so you’ll be supporting a family run which has spanned over eight generations.
Give your pet the paw-fect Christmas
Pet lovers can make sure their canine companions feel special this Christmas with the chance to meet the big man. This year, the Santa Paws experience is returning to Pyle Garden Village, meaning your furry friends will get the perfect festive picture opportunity, ideal for next year’s Christmas card. Each ticket includes a pawfect Santa smooth, a photo opportunity and a treat from Santa and his elves.
Drive in festive fun
A drive-in pantomime is on its way to Porthcawl to spread some festive cheer… oh yes it is! The pre-recorded performance of Peter Pan, featuring Owen Money, will be shown on a big screen at the Hi-Tide car park in Porthcawl in the run up to Christmas. There will also be a chance to watch some festive films on the big screen with drive-in viewings of classics like Home Alone, A Muppet's Christmas Carol and Polar Express.
