Who We Are

The Bridgend Local Nature Partnership (LNP) is all about bringing people closer to nature. We’re a vibrant group made up of conservation charities, local authorities, community groups, and passionate individuals – all united by a love for the natural world.

Together, we explore, protect, and celebrate the incredible nature right here on our doorstep.

Our goal?
A Bridgend that’s bursting with wildlife and brimming with opportunities to enjoy it.

What we do

At the Bridgend LNP, we’re on a mission to connect people with nature while protecting and enhancing our local environment. Here’s how we make it happen:

  • Co-ordinating conservation projects - We bring people and organisations together to get important work done.
  • Providing training - From brushcutter sessions to nature inspired workshops, we help people build skills for protecting the environment.
  • Promoting local efforts - We shine a spotlight on the amazing work our members and partners do.
  • Developing a Nature Recovery Plan - Our Local Nature Recovery Action Plan will guide nature conservation in Bridgend for the next 10 years.
  • Accessing funding - Through us, local organisations have secured resources to make big things happen!

How to Get Involved

Join our regular meetings, receive exciting updates through our newsletter, and get access to funding, equipment, and training opportunities.

The following volunteering opportunities are a great way to get involved with nature in Bridgend:

Bedford Park Volunteers:
Fridays from 10:00-14:00. Help with habitat creation, invasive species removal and maintenance of the on-site plant nursery! All welcome, tea and coffee available; volunteers are advised to bring a lunch.

Bryngarw Volunteers:
Meet the first Saturday of every month at 10am outside the Bryngarw cafe. Recent projects have included management of the woodlands, clearing invasive species in the Japanese Garden and helping with customer service tasks during the Easter holidays.

Kenfig NNR Volunteers:
Wildlife Wednesday from 10:00. Take part in wildlife surveys, moth traps and other wildlife surveys when needed. Meet at the visitors’ centre.

Practical Thursday! From 10:00, out on site doing big physical tasks, for the benefit of native wildlife. Meet at the visitors’ centre.

STEER Academy:
The environmental conservation volunteers meet on Fridays from 10:00-14:00. Take part in tree planting, coppicing, habitat creation and other woodland management activities. STEER ask that you are 18 or older, reasonably fit and comfortable working outside in all weather.

Wildlife Trust:
First Monday of every month at Parc Slip from September to April, for presentations and talks on local wildlife. In the summer months the group organises excursions and activities.

Bat Box Workshop at Bryngarw Country Park

October 27, 2025
Build your own bat box with the help of the Ranger team at Bryngarw Country Park. A bat box is a fantastic way to attract bats to your garden, giving them a helping hand by providing them with somewhere to roost overnight. Bats are extremely important to nature in the UK, and worldwide. These special flying mammals work hard catching insects and pollinating plants. Their numbers are declining though – you can help them by putting up bat boxes! Find out more and get your tickets here: https://awenboxoffice.com/whats-on/bat-box-workshop/
